A Discourse Approach in Reading Week 8



COMPARISON AND CONTRAST 





           First, we had taken midterm test for 1.30 hours. 

           Than,we started study new lesson that was "Comparison and Contrast".Teacher assigned us to think what are similarities and differences between Bangkok and Chiangmai on the board?





           Next, teacher showed the pictures between apples and orange.

           She asked us about the similarities and the differences, and wrote on the board. This is our opinion with the similarities and the differences of apples and orange.




            After that, we read the text about the distinction between high-and-low context cultures and made diagram on the whiteboard.


Members of high-context cultures 
- More skilled in reading non-verbal behaviors
- Speak less and listen more
- Indirect and less explicit communication

Members of low-context cultures 
- Stress direct and explicit communication
- Speak more and listen less
- Emphasize verbal messages and the shared information

           Then, teacher explained a comparison-contrast pattern,it presents similarities(comparisons) between two or more things, differences(contrasts) between two or more things, or both similarities and differences(Elder,2008:133).
           Teacher assign us to do the homework to find meaning about the markers to point out comparison and contrast, and to do 
all the exercises. 


What are your attitudes with this the lesson?

           From the exercises that I do I think the text wasn't hard for me, I can explained about the comparison and the contrast. The markers to point out comparison and contrast can help me to know what the comparison and contrast but some word was difficult because I have never seen before or I don't know meaning of the words.I think this the lesson is very important ,we usually use it to describe between two or more things are different in real-life.
